The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Asthma Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine was founded in 2009. It is a joint venture between the Department of Medicine, the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the Pediatric Environmental Medicine Center.

Our mission is to increase the scientific understanding of asthma/allergic diseases across all ages, to translate these findings into innovative approaches and to implement these approaches in the asthma community through an integrated Institute of scientists, clinicians, educators, patients and the community, thereby improving the health of asthma patients.

"We believe this Institute will help patients live more healthfully and fully, while promoting the understanding of the disease at the biologic level." - Dr. Sally Wenzel, Director
